Although nowadays I can just tell the time from my smartphone screen, I still feel much more comfortable using a wrist watch. It is faster, and I don’t have to go through the hassle of taking it out of my pocket.
A wrist watch is also great because it can double as a nice simple accessory you can wear virtually everywhere. As such, being a minimalist design geek, I always look for the best looking minimalist designed items.
Because of that, I’ve made some research and has com up with a list of the 13 best wrist watches with minimalist and modern design, which are also fairly affordable (under $200).
So let’s get started!
13 Best Modern Minimalist Watches for Men Under $200
1. Fossil Men’s ‘The Minimalist 3H’ Leather Watch
The first on the list is the sleek ‘The Minimalist 3H’ leather watch by the American watch maker, Fossil. The company is well known to make great watches for decades.
Regarding the design, I just love the numberless dial. It gives the watch a nice minimal design and a sophisticated clean look.
The smooth leather strap compliments the clock face elegantly. The logo does not look obtrusive. However, I would prefer if they made the logo even more subtle by making it gray.
Regarding the build, it is very well made. The band is genuine leather and is interchangeable with any 22 mm bands from Fossil.
The case is made of black-plated stainless steel with a black sun-ray dial. The dial is accented by genuine diamond at the 12 o’clock marker which adds a beautiful sparkle without looking over-the-top.
Furthermore, it comes in a beautiful tin case which is great to send as a gift.
The watch is water resistant up to 165 feet which is great for casual swimming, or washing but not suitable for diving.
Case diameter: 44 mm
2. Citizen Men’s Eco-Drive Black Watch
Second on the list is the Eco-Drive Black Watch by the well known Japanese watch makers, Citizen. I just love the almost markless, and numberless dials. It makes the watch look super sophisticated and minimal.
Other than that, the simple straight hands also adds to the minimalist design. The black bands blends well with the overall design.
The only thing I wish they did was to put the logo only as “Citizen”, without the “Eco-Drive” text. Or at least, make the “Eco-Drive” text more subtle by using a gray or off-white color. This would have improved the minimalist look of the watch.
The watch case is 40 mm stainless steel with mineral glass as the dial window. It utilizes Japanese quartz movement for precise and great accuracy. The band is made of calfskin leather which gives that nice smooth look.
One small downside about this watch is the water resistant is only up to 99 feet. Which means that it can withstand splashes or rainy weather but not suitable for swimming or diving.
Case diameter: 40 mm
3. Michael Kors Runway Black Watch
The next on the list is the Runway Black by the popular American designer brand Michael Kors. This is one of my favorites on this list.
This watch is perfect if you’re looking for a luxurious looking minimalist watch that’s quite affordable.
The thing that I like the most about this watch is the clock face. They have made the colors of the components blend well with the whole color of the watch, which gives it a clean and nice elegant look.
Furthermore, the sleek metal bracelet adds to the sophisticated aesthetic of the watch. A great and beautiful design overall.
Most of the watch is made of stainless steel which makes it really sturdy, while the window is made of mineral glass which can protect it from a great amount scratches.
The Runway Black watch also utilizes Japanese quartz movement for a sharp accuracy.
Regarding water resistance, it can go quite deep up until 165 feet, which again, is good for swimming but not for diving.
Case diameter: 44 mm
4. Seiko Men’s SGEG19 Classic Black Watch
The Japanese brand Seiko is one of my favorite watch producers. I’ve worn a number of Seiko watches over the years, and I found them really well built and long lasting.
Although Seiko is not known for minimalist watches, this one caught my eyes. While not having the most minimalist design, this watch is a beauty.
The numberless gold dials gives it an elegant look, while the simple overall shape gives it that nice classic minimal look.
Again, just like most Seiko watches, this one is very well made. The case and bracelet are made of beautiful black tone stainless steel, while the window is made of Seiko’s signature Hardlex crystal.
This lets the watch be water resistant up to 330 feet which makes it not only suitable for swimming but also snorkeling. However, while 330 feet is quite deep, it is not suitable for diving.
Case diameter: 42.3 mm
5. Lacoste Men’s 2010819 Watch
This is another watch that caught my eyes. The clean white aesthetic just makes it stunning to look at. The gold dials and hands gives it a beautiful luxury vibe but still being minimal.
The gold colored crown on the side also accents the clock face really elegantly. Furthermore, the smooth white band goes really well with the overall look.
The watch also comes in many colors including blue, red, green and black. However, I feel the white version looks the best.
Regarding the build, the case is made of stainless steel which makes it durable. On the other hand, the band is made of silicone material which gives it that smooth look.

The watch case is made of stainless steel, as well as the textured crown. The band is made of silicone material.

The construction is great with stainless steel as the material for the case and band. The window is made of mineral glass.

Daniel Wellington is well known to make beautiful minimalist design watches with a classic look. This Black Cornwall watch by them is my favorite.
The gold and black combination makes it really stylish and elegant. I love the signature simple black fabric strap. They feel a lot more comfortable than leather straps in my opinion.
The watch uses a 18 mm strap which is interchangeable. The case is rose-gold plated which gives it a nice looking finish.
The case diameter is only about 36 mm, which is great if you don’t like a big bulky watch.
This watch has a poor water resistance which only goes up to 100 feet, which is not great for bathing or swimming.
Case diameter: 36 mm
9. Fossil Mens The Minimalist – FS5308
Here is another handsomely minimalist designed watch by Fossil.
I like the nicely designed dials that’s just barely visible, while the seconds’ hand is blue.
It gives an interesting unique look to the watch. Looking at the whole design, they managed to make it look minimal and also look very well built.
Just like most Fossil watches, the construction is great. The case and bracelet is made of a nice looking stainless steel material.
The bracelet can be interchangeable with other Fossil 22 mm bands.
Regarding water resistance, it can go up to 165 feet. Great for most daily uses.
Case diameter: 42 mm
10. Lacoste Mens 2010901
Lacoste has produced good number of great watches and I really love this one.
While it is rare people associate a silver wrist watch with minimalism. I feel that they have managed to make this one beautifully minimalist.
Every component looks gracefully designed together. I love that they only display the crocodile logo without the text. I wish most watches displays a simple logo like this.
Regarding the build, the band and case are made of durable stainless steel, while the watch window is made of mineral glass which can withstand most scratches.
The one thing that is a downer is that it only has up to 100 feet in water resistance.

11. Nixon Unisex Cannon

The simple round face with the digital display is very nicely done. I like that they used large numbers to tell the time. It makes it look creative and simple at the same time.
The construction is also great. The band is made of stainless steel, while the case is made of metal.
Regarding water resistance, the watch performs quite well. It can go up to 330 feet which is suitable for swimming and snorkeling. However, the watch is not suitable for diving.
Case diameter: 39 mm
13. Fossil Q Men’s Gen 3 Explorist Smartwatch
Finally, we have the Q Gen E Explorist smartwatch from Fossil. With the shift to mostly smart accessories, I feel this is a great entry to this list.
The overall polished modern black design makes it look nicely minimalist. I feel that the all black finish makes it look good on most wrists.
Because it is a smartwatch, it comes with a lot of features. You can receive your smartphone notifications on the display which can be convenient.
Other than that, you can also do activity tracking, control music and micro apps, and also control the microphone and speakers. These features is great for people who are active and love doing fitness.
However, the only downside that I can see is that you need to charge it. It has an estimated 24 hour battery life.
I am too used to traditional watches which can last very long without the need to charge or replace batteries. Hopefully in the future, we will have longer lasting smartwatches.
It does not require a lot of money to get a beautifully designed minimalist watch, or any other minimalist accessories for that matter. However, it does take some effort looking for the right minimalist design to fit your taste.
Hopefully, this list has helped you in some way. Do let me know what you think of this list in the comments!
